No 5 Holding up the Mail

Manningtree always has been associated with the Harwich Branch. The provision of a bay platform, still in use today, is evidence of the enduring nature of the trade that this line was built to serve.

The photograph above indicates the advantage the artist has with respect to "artistic license". It is interesting to note that although modernisation through electrification has taken place there have been no improvements for road crossing.

N7 Class 69614 departs from Manningtree on a down Harwich branch local train while a B17 Class on a down Norwich stopping train stands in the platform, the scene being witnessed by the G.P.O. van at the level crossing gates.
