No10 Mistley Morning

Mistley Station on the Harwich Branch was designed by Fredrick Barnes and built for the opening of the line in 1854.  Mistley was a small port used by coastal traffic on the River Stour. The Lower Quay and the Railway were joined by a horse operated tramway until an incline was built in 1898.

The Malting, in the Lower Yard produced Malt and Yeast for Beer, and Bread products, justifying its railway connection. The Lower Yard handled amongst other commodities, Grain , Steel And Gunpowder and this trade lasted until the mid 1980's.

In its heyday the station was awarded over thirty "Best Kept Station" certificates.
